There will be a special primary on June 17, 2025, and a special election on November 4, 2025, to choose Georgia Public Service Commission members for District 2 and District 3.

What is the Public Service Commission?

The PSC is an elected body that regulates telecommunications and energy (electricity & natural gas) services in Georgia, and has full regulatory control over the Georgia Power Company, including the power to veto rate increases. See https://psc.ga.gov/about-the-psc for more details.

Why are we having a special election?

In 2020, four Fulton County voters filed a lawsuit arguing that our current method of electing PSC members “dilutes black voting strength in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.”

In 2022, a federal judge ruled in favor of the voters and suspended all PSC elections until the Georgia General Assembly could devise a new compliant method.

In 2024 (after several appeals) the US Supreme Court reversed that ruling, but not in time to hold elections last November
